Pippo Inzaghi:The sad end of a club legend

"SUPER PIPPO" INZAGHI

Filippo Inzaghi recently granted an interview to Milan News in which he addressed the issue of his limited game time in recent weeks. The 38 year old iconic striker is clearly frustrated by his lack of opportunities and wants to play more.
"My dream is to end my career at Milan, and that could well happen;but we have to see if they still need me"
And therein lies the catch.Milan, sadly,do not need the man affectionately monikered Super Pippo anymore, leastways that's the way Allegri sees it.The array of world class talent up-front means he has become a luxury Allegri can afford to do without.Considering the continuing injury woes for Pato and Cassano's long term absence has failed to generate any regular game time and the signs should be more than clear.
Not that they've not always been there.Whilst Allegri's man-management skills are exemplary,he has never hesitated in dealing with high profile situations. He gently eased Ronaldinho out of the side when he took over, making it abundantly clear that the Brazilian Samba specialist didn't fit into his plans.Whilst the issue has been dealt with much more subtly this time(and rightly so considering we are talking about a club legend and firm fan favourite),the hints have been there nevertheless. The strongest was when he was left out of the Champions league squad for this season;despite Pippo's well known hankering to catch up with Raul's record. It must have hurt him a lot, personally;and his popularity with the Curva Sud and the high-ups at Milanello suggests Allegri must have taken a lot of heat for that decision,so sticking to it speaks volumes about how he views Super Pippo. In our last win against Catania as well, despite the longing of Milan fans to see their hero in action,Allegri kept him on the bench even when we had the game wrapped up.
Which is the sad issue here, really.Just minutes after coming on he made a trademark run and almost connected an Ibrahimovic pass.Inzaghi is well known for playing off of the shoulder of the last defender, which implies that the abundant creativity of Robinho and Ibra could have a favourable outlet in Pippo.Considering the amount of chances he fluffs,Robinho may fare better as our trequartista, freeing up a slot upfront.Inzaghi may then alternate with Pato and El Shaarawy for a berth alongside Ibra pending the return of FantAntonio.

ALLEGRI,GRADUALLY PHASING OUT THE LEGEND

Sadly,Allegri doesn't see it that way, which is why Milanista's the world over should be bracing themselves for the exit of this iconic figure.“I want to continue as long as I feel important. I would hate for others to tell me to stop, as I want it to be my decision. We’ll see what happens in the next two months, because I want to be a protagonist. If I can’t do it at Milan, then I can try to achieve that elsewhere." Inzaghi continues in the interview. What this clearly spells out is that if Allegri doesn't have a change of heart, this might be the end of the road for this spectacular love affair.
Inzaghi brought us so many memories, most of all that memorable night in Athens when we gained sweet revenge on Liverpool. We would soon be deprived of this instinctive goalscorer, the man who, according to Alex Ferguson, must have been born offside;the man who made assistant referees the world over curse the day FIFA implemented the offside rule.
Most poignant of all, however,we might never again see the delightful sight of this childish no.9,running maniacally towards the corner flag,a look of pure ecstasy on his face...

  1. Allegri's decision of facing out the Goal Poacher is indeed very sad. Pippo is one players that all faithful Milanist love so much because of his offside goal scoring ability. He has always been there for Milan when we need that GOAL to see us through. I would be happy to see Allegri give him some play time in the absence of Cassano because Pippo really wants to end his Career and be a protagonist..At his age he is still fearful in the #9 jersey and still scores in training and minor games. This is not the time to say Good Bye to PIPPO. Allegri should reconsider and offer him some play time in matches that we win hands down so he can feel loved...FORZA PIPPO, FORZA MILAN ANKASA. 1
