(FantAntonio)
There is disturbing news from Milanello today concerning the condition of Cassano, who fell ill on the flight back from Rome after the victory on Saturday.
I would just reproduce the official pronouncement from acmilan.com as this seems too depressing to talk about:
"MILAN - AC Milan, according to medical reports of the Policlinico in Milan, have said that Antonio Cassano has experienced ischemic cerebral damage. The instrumental and neuroradiological examinations required 72 hours for their course and have highlighted the problem in the circumscribed area of the brain that did not result in persistent neurological deficits. The cause was identified as the presence of a patent foramen ovale septal heart, detectable only with sophisticated specialized investigations. The timing of therapy established has allowed a rapid recovery and improvement of clinical conditions that are good.
In the coming days the player will undergo a small surgical interventional cardiology (closure of the foramen ovale), the recovery time for return to playing will be better defined after the surgery, but probably will be a few months.
AC Milan gratefully acknowledges the facilities of the Polyclinic of Milan for what they are doing with great promptness and professionalism."
Obviously one is lost in the midst of all this medical jargon, but what is obvious is that Cassano would undergo surgery and if all goes well,he should be back in 'a few months'.This certainly is a crushing blow as he has been in fantastic form of late, playing a huge role in the renaissance of both Milan lately and the Azzuri under Cesare Prandelli.
Our commiserations goes out to the man and his family. No matter who you are this is disturbing news and sometimes under all the allure and glamour of their lives we forget footballer's are flesh and blood who are just like us.Personally I wish him the best of luck and sincerely hope we see him again in the immortal 'Red and Black' stripes of the Rossoneri.
